CHINT and Qinghai Lihao Partner for Silicon Production

CHINT has partnered with Qinghai Lihao to build the world’s largest single-line production base for high-purity silicon in Xining, Qinghai Province. With an annual capacity of 200,000 tons, the facility aims to revolutionize the global silicon industry by integrating advanced technology with green energy solutions. This partnership aligns with China’s energy transformation goals, focusing on producing “green products” powered by “green power.”

Overcoming Geographical Challenges

Xining, located 2,800 meters above sea level in the harsh, high-altitude environment of the Tibetan Plateau, presents unique challenges for large-scale industrial projects. The region’s cold temperatures, low oxygen levels, and high winds necessitated specialized equipment and innovative solutions. CHINT met these challenges with high-performance electrical products designed to withstand the extreme conditions, ensuring efficient operation despite the thin air and severe weather.

Fast-Tracking Project Delivery

The scope of the project required rapid execution without compromising on quality. CHINT’s ability to cut the typical timeline by more than half—thanks to detailed planning, seamless project management, and close collaboration with Qinghai Lihao—was key to meeting the demanding schedule. This integrated approach encompassed engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, as well as the provision of power distribution equipment and critical electrical devices.

Tailored High-Altitude Solutions

Given the extreme altitude, standard electrical equipment would not suffice. CHINT provided specialized solutions, including:

  • 110kV Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS): Ensures efficient power distribution.
  • 10kV Medium-Voltage Equipment: Manages electricity flow at intermediate levels.
  • Low-Voltage Devices: Reliable circuit breakers and control units designed for harsh conditions.

Each piece of equipment underwent rigorous testing to ensure reliability under Xining's challenging climate. This focus on quality minimizes risks and long-term maintenance costs, ensuring the sustainability of the project.
