CHINT Power Quality Solutions “Empower” Wind Farms in Mexico

APR 7, 2023

Wind power plants face a technical challenge when it comes to connecting to the local national power grid, as they need to meet the technical requirements for grid interconnection coefficients.

CHINT Power Quality Solutions can address and solve this problem. This solution has outstanding performance in improving power factor, enhancing power quality, and improving voltage quality, ensuring the stability, reliability, and high efficiency of the wind power plant’s electrical system.

In the internationalization process of power transmission and distribution, CHINT’s products and services are customized according to international standards and local requirements, receiving unanimous praise from customers.

CHINT has successfully addressed the technical challenge of connecting the Amistad I-IV, Magdalena, and Dolores wind farms to the Mexican national power grid by providing a complete set of power quality solutions.

The total installed capacity of the solution is over 350 Mvar and it includes more than 50 sets of power-quality installations such as shunt capacitor banks, L-C filtering installations, and shunt reactors. These products have 34.5kV voltage level, rated frequency 60Hz, and can meet 90% of the reactive power demand of wind turbines.

The system has operated effectively, and it has fully met the technical requirements for grid interconnection coefficients set by the Mexican national grid for wind farms. This successful implementation has solved the urgent technical problem of grid interconnection for the three wind farms and can serve as an excellent model for future installations.
