The Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee was held in Beijing on December 18, 1978. Since then, China has embarked on a historical journey of Reform and Opening-up. Forty years of great prosperity, earth-shaking changes have taken place in China. The fate of countless Chinese people has been rewritten. Reform and Opening-up have profoundly changed China and other parts of the world.
On December 18, 2018, "40th Anniversary Celebration on Reform and Opening-up" was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In order to fully demonstrate the great achievements of 40 years' Reform and Opening-up, to promote vigorously the zeitgeist of reform and innovation, to encourage the whole society to unswervingly carry out Reform and Opening-up, the CPC and the State Council have commended 100 pioneers of reform.
Wang Huning, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, read out "The Decision of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Commending the Outstanding Contributions of Reform and Opening-up". Nan Cunhui, Chairman of CHINT Group, an outstanding representative of Wenzhou private economy was awarded the title and medal of "Pioneer of Reform" by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.
In the early 1980s, the spring tide was surging and every opportunity was fresh and new. Nan Cunhui borrowed 50,000 yuan and started his entrepreneurial career. Born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, Nan Cunhui belongs to one of the first batch of private entrepreneurs who emerged after the Reform and Opening-up.
Forty years of trials and hardships, small commodity booms big market and small capital attracts more talents and technologies. Those of Wenzhou people who were brave enough to launch Wenzhou's private economy have written their legends in every corner of the world.
Through forty years marked by Reform and Opening-Up, Nan Cunhui led the CHINT Group to greater heights and hence walking into the great era. From the former small town workshop gradually developed into a smart energy solutions provider, CHINT’s business has stridden into more than 140 countries and regions worldwide.

“Nan Cuihui, Chairman of CHINT Group left a scar in his middle finger.
Forty years ago in the middle of cold winter, younger Nan pierced his finger by sharp awl when repairing shoes. Bounding up the wound with tears he continued to repair shoes.
While starting a business of pushbutton and switch production, Nan invited experts retired from Shanghai Renmin Electrical Apparatus Works to guide the production. The older master asked, ‘What did you ask me to do? You want money or to build up the brand?’
'To build up the brand!’ Nan answered decisively.
Brand influence won huge profits. CHINT Group has become a world-renowned electrical manufacturing enterprise.

Nan said that encouraged and supported by the policies, China has shown unprecedented vitality which stimulated the passion and motivation for entrepreneurship and innovation from generation to generation. As the frontier base of Reform and Opening-up, Wenzhou's ignited the spark of China's private economy development. From small to large, weak to strong, through trial and error, private enterprises have gradually matured and kept pace with the times and reforms. They have become important parts of the socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics and important forces for the sustained and healthy development of the Chinese economy.
CHINT has gone through 35 of the 40 years of Reform and Opening-up, Nan expressed. Over the past 35 years, CHINT has started its business from a small town in southern Zhejiang Province. Later on, the group embarked on the internationalization process with the aim of promoting “Made in China” and “Chinese service” to a strong and competitive international market. Reform and Opening-up have endowed us with courage and opportunities as well as glories and dreams. Without Reform and Opening-up, there would be no CHINT today.
More than ten outstanding private entrepreneurs from all over China as well as individuals from all walks of life who have made remarkable contributions to promote Reform and Opening-up in various fields and CHINT gathered together to accept the awards, which undoubtedly showed further affirmation and support to private entrepreneurs of the CPC Central Committee. The party and the government paid close attention and set up high expectations to private entrepreneurs. The awards also strengthened our confidence in our country’s development and our determination to achieve a bigger success.
Reform never stops. Standing at a new historical juncture, China's private entrepreneurs have been endowed with a new mission. As a member of the private entrepreneurs, we should further promote the entrepreneurial spirit and deeply cultivate the main industry with more focus. Besides, we should strive for first-class actively give back to the society and realize greater efforts with the purpose of to achieving high-quality development.
