A Gift for the 50th Anniversary of Kuwait-China Diplomatic Ties

APR 2, 2021

In the southern Mutlaa region of Kuwait, a large-scale project covering an area of more than 100 square kilometers is under construction. This project condenses the wisdom of both sides of China and Kuwait. Once completed, it will improve the power supply efficiency of the entire city and benefit 400,000 local residents in Kuwait. It is the key local housing welfare project — Kuwait Mutlaa Housing Infrastructure Substation Construction Project. On March 2, 2021, the civil construction part of the project has been successfully completed and is expected to be delivered by the end of this year.

The total contract value signed by CHINT and the Kuwait Public Housing Welfare Administration is approximate to 55.8 million dollars. Accordingly, CHINT became the first Chinese private enterprise to enter the general contracting market of Kuwait substation projects.

The project adopts the EPC model. CHINT is responsible for the design, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of six 132kV substations, and is fully responsible for the quality, safety, construction period, and cost of the construction projects. The signing of the project attracted much attention and was valued by the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait. Counselor Cheng Yongru and his entourage inspected the project site accompanied by Chen Chengjian, President of CHINT Electric.

The implementation of this project has experienced the global epidemic, adding to the anxiety of the tight construction process. At the beginning of 2020, when the epidemic broke out in China, several main project leaders were stranded in the country and could not reach the scene; the post-90s CHINT employees who were still in Kuwait took the initiatives to face difficulties and to use remote guidance methods such as telephone and video for cross-board interaction. Within a month, the local epidemic situation in Kuwait got serious. CHINT employees in China immediately organized material assistance and actively recruited them. Batches of anti-epidemic materials such as masks, protective clothing, and goggles were quickly put in place. In addition to CHINT's employees in Kuwait, these materials were also distributed to Kuwaiti clients, engineers and workers to ensure the safety of personnel to the greatest extent. The two sides are in the same boat and courageously overcome the difficulties.

The signing of the EPC project requires continuous efforts in the early stage. CHINT's deep cultivation of the Kuwait market can be traced back to 2014. At that time, CHINT embarked on the road of competing with foreign companies in Europe, America, Japan, South Korea and other places by means of single equipment trade. After the Ministry of Water and Electricity of Kuwait obtained pre-qualification, CHINT has supplied more than 300 bay GIS and multiple power transformers to continuously protect the local people's daily life and industrial production. With professional strength and good reputation, CHINT finally won the Mutlaa project in 2019.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait, the Mutlaa project jointly created by Kuwait and CHINT is the most suitable gift. We believe that the two-side people will continue to strengthen mutual benefit and trust, and create a beautiful new chapter of common prosperity and friendship.
